Choosing a Polishing Cloth

First determine what are you trying to accomplish?
Remove dirt and debris?
Shine and add luster?
Polish and protect?
Remove tarnish and oxidation?

Step 2:

Whether you are polishing your car or removing tarnish from you great grandmother's jewelry,
it is important to have the right tools. Some polishing cloths are nothing more
than that, a soft cloth composed of cotton, micro fiber or a variety of textiles.
These are quite good when buffing or shining. They can also be used when applying a paste, gel or polish.
The cloth works quite well for holding the desired chemical. Some can be rewashed or cleaned when the job is done
and reused many times. The best cloths that I have found are manufactured by Selvyt in England.

Step 3:

If you are looking to remove tarnish from silver I suggest an impregnated silver polishing cloth.
Jewelry Cleaning "Impregnated" Polishing Cloths (JC) These polishing cloths contain the tarnish removing chemicals and do not require anything more than a little effort.

Step 4:

If you are trying to remove scratches, use an impregnated polishing cloth that contains rouge.
